About Color Theory

RGB (Red, Green, Blue) - An additive color model used in digital displays where red, green, and blue light are added together to create various colors.

HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) - A more intuitive color model that represents colors based on hue (color type), saturation (intensity), and lightness (brightness).

CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black) - A subtractive color model used in printing where ink colors are subtracted from white paper to create various colors.

Monochromatic - Variations of a single color using different shades, tints, and tones. Creates a cohesive, harmonious look.

Analogous - Colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. Creates a serene and comfortable design.

Complementary - Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. Creates a high contrast and vibrant look.

Triadic - Three colors that are evenly spaced around the color wheel. Creates a balanced and vibrant design.

Tetradic - Four colors arranged into two complementary pairs. Creates a rich, dynamic design but can be challenging to balance.

60-30-10 Rule - A classic interior design principle that can be applied to any design. Use 60% of a dominant color, 30% of a secondary color, and 10% of an accent color.

Color Psychology - Colors evoke emotions and associations:

  • Red - Energy, passion, excitement
  • Blue - Trust, calm, reliability
  • Yellow - Optimism, clarity, warmth
  • Green - Growth, health, harmony
  • Purple - Creativity, wisdom, luxury

Accessibility - Always ensure sufficient contrast between text and background colors for readability. Tools like the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) provide standards for contrast ratios.
